Genevieve McCarthy
Raised in San Diego, California, Genevieve has lived in Europe
for the last 7 years, between Spain, Ireland and Italy. She
speaks fluent Spanish and Portuguese, along with Italian and
Catalan.
In Ireland, Genevieve worked in wine importing and
wine development. In Italy, she worked for a winery in Franciacorta,
the Best sparkling wine region. She admits to being a "foodie",
and has exhaustively researched gourmet locations in Spain,
Portugal and Italy, for the last few years. In Spain, she created
a wine club, catering to the English speaking market, called "Cellar
Tastings", and began doing small wine tours of the various
wine regions. She also does wine consulting for restaurants
in Madrid.
 Genevieve has received her wine education credentials
through the WSET in London, The Wine and Spirit Education
Trust. The WSET qualifications are the wine industry standard
on an
increasingly International level. She has an extensive
network of contacts in the wine industry in Spain and Portugal,
which
enables her to bring small groups to exceptional wineries,
that are otherwise closed to the general public.
Her love
for wine, coupled with her passion for languages and her
degree and background in travel and tourism, ultimately led
her
to
create a boutique wine tours company, alongside her husband
Des, and her mother, Linda.
