Holidays in Salou on the Costa Dorada
Very few golfers know anything about
golf on the Costa Dorada. In fact few people actually know
where the Costa Dorada is? The Costa Dorada is a stretch
of coastline running down the Mediterranean just south of
Barcelona . In the heart of the Costa Dorada is Salou, the
famous town where large tour operators send hoards of holidaymakers
for fun, sun, sangria and xxx!
What few golfers know is just outside Salou are two good
golf courses and one excellent one. All less then a twenty
minute drive. This possibly makes Salou the best nightlife
golf holiday hotspots in Spain .
You have four courses, in which to play, in the area. The
furthest is Panoramica (a 45min drive from Salou) a really
beautiful course. Designed by Bernhard langer this course
is always well manicured, where olive tress and lakes adorn
the course. The course is of championship calibre and a must
play while staying in Salou. Then you have Aiguesverds and
Costa Dorada golf courses. Both members courses, very pleasant
to play and always in golf condition. Lastly you have Bonmont
and great course! Designed by the famous Robert Trent Jones
Jnr. Sweeping ravines, USGA sculpted greens with mountain
backdrops, make for a very enjoyable and challenging golf
course. It is amazing that so few UK holiday makers have
played this course. The real beauty is not just the quality
and easy location of the golf courses but the very low cost
of the green fees and noticeable lack of golfers playing.
Compared now to the high cost of playing golf in the south
of Spain , one wonders why the Costa Dorada has remained
completely unknown?
After a days golf in normally idyllic weather – where
the climate seldom drops below 15° even in winter, a
large group of golfers can descend upon Salou where an abundance
of shops, bars, clubs, disco’s, restaurants are available.
Salou is not a town where there is nothing to do after dark!
For those who like a little more culture while on holiday,
one can visit the historical towns of Reus and Tarragona
where modernistic & roman architecture can be seen. Reus
is the birth place of the Antoni Gaudi the inspired architect
the famous Famillia Sagrada cathedral in Barcelona . It has
over 1,000 shops in the town centre, where you can shop until
you drop.
Lastly those golfers who love wine will appreciate the
locally produced Priorat wine. Regarded by many wine connoisseurs
as possibly the finest red wine in Spain – and that
includes Rioja. Priorat is available in most restaurants
in the Costa Dorada and it is simply delicious, but watch
out, it’s a powerful red about 14%, too many glasses
could result in missing your tee time next day!!
In summary if you are looking for a new golf destination,
good courses, low green fees, uncrowned, good weather, lively
nightlife then you should consider Salou in the Costa Dorada.
